Saint Vincent de Paul

Hi all,

Just wanted to mention on of the projects I'm involved in in the SVP. The organization is a community based charity with local knowledge being key to identifying local needs and also making access services as simple as possible. The area each local conferences have traditionally been on RC parish boundaries.

In recent times it has been noted that because of the irregular shape of most parishes and changes in demographics this method is not sufficient. So the head office in Sean Mc Dermot's St. decided to embark on a process of mapping data from the census 2006 on to local conference. The North Eastern counties (Meath, Louth, Cavan & Monaghan) have started a pilot project.

I managed to get roped into the project as I am reasonably young and have a cursory knowlegde of computer and IT systems. We have just completed the first stage of the project where we provided each conference a list address that closely match there area. Stage two will start when we get back the lists and check them against the census. There's of work to do, mostly data entry, but the finished article should immensely beneficial.
